What To Know About: Different Style Hearing Aids

There are many different varieties of hearing aids these days - all serving a variety of hearing needs. You can find hearing aids that are different in size, how they fit your ear, and even different colors. While one hearing aid may seem like it is the perfect fit for you, you should always take advantage of Sonus’ free hearing tests to see what your individual hearing needs require.

If you were wondering about the varieties of hearing aids and their benefits, we have you covered!

ITC (In-the-Canal)

These hearing aids are situated partially in the ear canal and can include volume and memory controls.

CIC (Completely-in-Canal)

These hearing aids fit deep inside of the ear canal and are one of the smallest and least visible styles of hearing aids.

IIC (Invisible-in-the-Canal)

These hearing aids rest inside of the second bend of the ear canal, making them virtually invisible. These are the smallest and least visible style of hearing aids; their deep placement can improve overall sound quality.

ITE (In-the-Ear)

These hearing aids can be made in two styles and sizes - one that fills the majority of the outer ear, and one that fills only the lower portion of the outer ear. These can include volume controls that generally don’t fit on smaller hearing aid styles. Because of the size of this style, a larger battery fits inside and holds longer battery life.

BTE (Behind-the-Ear)

These hearing aids hook over the top of your ear and rest behind your ear with a tube that connects to an earpiece inside of your ear. These hearing aids are able to accommodate a larger battery, offering longer battery life.

RIC (Receiver-in-Canal)

These hearing aids are similar to the BTE hearing aids, however the receiver is inside of the ear canal. Because the receiver is not housed in the larger part of the device, the RIC style is more discreet than the BTE.
