June is Men's Health Month!

Updated: Mar 17, 2021

June is Men's Health Month and it's important that we talk about the fact that hearing loss is more common in men than women!

Experts don’t know for sure. But most agree on a common theory: noise-induced hearing loss is the second leading cause of hearing loss — thus the discrepancy is due to the occupational and lifestyle differences between men and women.

Men are more likely to have military careers, or jobs in construction or industrial settings with loud equipment. Men are also more likely to participate in recreational activities where they’re exposed to loud noise, such as hunting or shooting. Fortunately, awareness around hearing protection has increased significantly over the decades, so it’s expected that high hearing loss numbers will go down.

If you suspect you or a loved one is experiencing hearing loss - even early signs - give us a call at (888) 574-6776 to set up a free hearing consultation with our hearing care professionals!

June being Men’s Health Month really got me thinking about how important early screening and awareness are, especially as we age. Hearing loss, heart issues, and mobility challenges often go unnoticed until they become serious, which is why I appreciate reminders like this one. I’ve seen how proactive care can make a huge difference for seniors’ independence and quality of life. That’s one of the reasons I’m interested in this one — finding supportive environments like assisted living or memory care communities where health and wellness are prioritized makes such a difference for aging loved ones who deserve safety, dignity, and comfort every day.

Men’s Health Month is an important reminder to prioritize both physical and mental well-being. Regular check-ups, exercise, and healthy habits make a big difference in long-term health. Equally important is seeking help when needed - issues like substance use or stress should never be ignored. A private rehab can provide confidential, professional support for those struggling, ensuring men get the care and guidance they need to lead healthier, more balanced lives.
